I love that you've perfectly defined the core of consumerism's problem and also it's solution. Gathering more "stuff" has never been the way to attain happiness. Although my life long fetish for art books would say otherwise. However I now feel like Jacob Marley carrying a load of Funk & Wagnalls chained around his neck. Less truly is more.
I love everything about this, JD. You're an evocative writer to start, brought further to life by your rich vocal performance. (Do you have a theater background? Because it sounds like you do.) I appreciate this notion of "enough," but I can't identify with it. When I was a kid, my dad, a cabbie in New York, would play the lotto and drive us up to Alpine, New Jersey to gawk at the McMansions. That was our family day trip. So much of my experience growing up was about coveting. Anyway, great stuff. You've got a new fan.

I would love to start a band called Funk & Wagnalls. #hinthint
